Pav Bhaji

Pav bhaji is popular Mumbai Street food. Pav means Bread Bhaji means vegetable mixed gravy. Pav toasted in butter and the gravy with added lemon juice gives a litter sourness and sweetness to the dish. Adding the correct spiciness and sourness brings you the correct flavour of Mumbai Street style. Pav Bhaji

 Servings  4 -5

Ingredients

Onion                                 2 Nos
Tomato                              2 Nos
Capsicum                          1 Nos
Potato                                 3 Now
Peas                                     1/4 cup
Carrot (optinal)                 1/4 cup
Garlic ginger paste           1 tbsp
Salt                                      as needed
Butter                                  4-5 tbsp
Red chilli powder              1 1/2 tbsp
Turmeric powder               1 tbsp
Pav Bhaji masal powder   2 1/2 tbsp
Corriander leaves               few
Lime juice                             3tbsp

Procedure

Firstly chop the onions tomatoes and capsicum into small pieces.
Boil the potatoes and smash it.
Keep a kadai in the stove and add butter to it. Then add the chopped onions and saute till it becomes transulent.
Add the chopped tomatoes and saute till it becomes masshy.
Add turmeric ,red chilli powder and pav bhaji masal powder to it.
Cover and cook it for 5 minutes in medium flame.
It will be cooked well.
Now add the smashed boiled potatoes ,peas and mix it.
Add water to it. It should not be watery.  It should be semi gravy consistency.
Cover and cook for 5 minutes in medium flame.
Once cooked add chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
Once it is cool add lime juice.
Cut the pav or bun into two pieces.
Heat a tawa and add a spoon of butter and add half spoon of pav bhaji masal powder and red chilli powder .
Place the pav in the pan and roast it.
Apply butter on the other side of the pav and turn it.
Once both the sides are cooked serve it hot with pav bhaji masal and lemon pieces.
Notes
Don’t add lime juice when it is hot, because when we add lime juice to the hot gravy it will become bitter .
You can also add carrot if you wish.
