Kadappa is a famous dish in kumbakonam. It is a garlic ginger based gravy that suits very well for dosa ,idli idiyappam and chappathi. During my childhood days every sunday in some hotels they will make kadappa me and dad will go for those hotels for having kadappa. Later my mom started doing this at home itself. She makes it very well and tastes like hotel.

Ingredients
Onion 2 medium sized
Garlic 5-6 pods
Ginger a small piece
Chilli 3-4 Nos
Pottukadalai 5tbsp
Sombu 2tbsp(1tbsp+1tbsp)
Coconut scrapped 3tbsp
Tomato (optional) 1 no
Passiparuppu 1/4cup
Bay leaf 1
Cinnamon a small piece
Oil 2 tbsp
Coriander leaves few
Water 1 1/2 cup
Salt 1/2tbsp
Procedure
Pressure cook the dhal without adding turmeric .
Grind garlic ,ginger ,sombu 1tbsp ,green chilli, coconut and pottukadalai by adding little water.
Keep a kadai in the stove. Add oil.
When oil is hot add bay leaf pattai and sombu.When it starts sputtering add onion.
Saute till it becomes transulent.
Add tomatoes.
Add salt to this mixture.
When tomatoes becomes masshy add the grounded paste and add water.
After adding the paste the texture will become thick so add water accordingly.
When it starts boiling add the cooked dhal to it.
Add water to this stage if needed.
It should not be watery so add water accordingly.
Once it started boiling add coriander leaves and switch off the stove.
